The London Armoury Co. produced P53s rank among the fi nest infantry arms imported to the US and CS during the Civil War years.
Although there were many commercial gun-makers in both Birmingham and London who produced the pattern 1853 Enfi eld rifle-musket to meet both Confederate and Union as well as domestic and other foreign government demands during the Civil War, the post-1861 London Armoury version was without doubt the finest in terms of quality. The later models were also somewhat unique in physical characteristics as well.
