150th Anniversary of the Battle of Staunton River Bridge, June 21-22, 2014

Posted on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 3:24 pm

Don’t miss the 150th commemoration of the Battle of Staunton River Bridge. In June 1864, a small group of old men and young boys, along with Confederate regulars, defended the bridge against Federal cavalry. They repulsed the raiders, which allowed continued transport of supplies along the Richmond & Danville Railroad. Programs throughout the weekend include medical demonstrations, camp life, period music and more. On Saturday, see living-history actors, a medal ceremony for descendants. Battles on both days. On Sunday there will be a camp worship service and tactical drill. The cost is $12 for Saturday and $8 on Sunday. Kids five and under get in free.
