Resting high upon a cliff above the Penobscot River, Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine is an imposing sight. Although the fort never saw any combat action, it is host to the annual Battle of Fort Knox Reenactment which this year drew upwards of 200 participants. Reenactors from as far away as Florida came together to form the largest garrison the fort has seen since it was last occupied during the Spanish American War. Once again the cannons boomed, the ramparts were manned, and the fort’s oven saw it’s first use in history.
