Welcome to the Battle of Barbourville, Kentucky where the War Between the States claimed its first casualties on both sides. Every third weekend in September at Minton Hickory Farm on South 225 the time slips back to that early foggy morning when 30 Barbourville Home Guards took a stand and tried to repel 800 advancing Confederate troops attempting to destroy Camp Andy Johnson, a Union recruiting camp located in the city. The home guardsmen heard the approaching army and removed planks from the bridge leading into town, they fired their muskets into the fog and the conflict begins. Saturday, the gates open at 10 am and the Battle begins at 2 pm. Sunday the gates open at 10 am and the Battle begins at 2 pm. There will be Confederate and Federal Army Camps, Thundering Cannons, Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery Demonstrations, Soldiers’ Wives and Camp Followers in 1860’s Costumes, Craft Demonstrations, Blacksmiths, and Period Ball, Food Vendors and Civil War Items for Sale.
